Lilypad Field In Teal by Felicity Barnetthollingbery

Features

ARTIST NOTES: Painting waterlilies feels like an artist’s rite of passage - an invitation to revisit a familiar subject while discovering something entirely personal within it. In this work, I’ve approached the theme through an abstract lens using bright, expressive colour to move beyond representation and into feeling. The piece is experimental for me in both process and surface. Layers of acrylic were built up and broken down, with glazes adding depth and luminosity, while oil pastels brought texture, line, and immediacy. I’ve allowed marks to remain visible and let unexpected combinations guide the direction of the work.

ARTIST BIO

Felicity Barnett Hollingbery is an emerging artist based in Donvale, on the outer eastern edge of Melbourne. Working intuitively and with a strong sense of curiosity, she is at the beginning of her artistic journey, exploring a wide range of styles and techniques.

Her work is driven by a deep love of bright colour - bold, expressive palettes that capture energy, mood, and movement. Drawn particularly to abstract forms, Felicity enjoys the freedom abstraction offers: a space to experiment, respond, and discover without constraint. Each piece becomes a process of play and exploration, where colour leads and composition follows.

As a developing artist, she embraces experimentation as an essential part of her practice. Rather than adhering to a single style, she allows her work to evolve organically, reflecting both her surroundings, current interests and her ongoing creative growth.

Through her paintings, Felicity aims to evoke feeling and connection, inviting viewers to experience colour in a joyful, immediate, and personal way.
