Turn Off The Thinking by Felicity Barnetthollingbery

Features

ARTIST NOTES: This small abstract work explores building up layered texture across a compact surface. Bold, intuitive colour choices were applied in response to process rather than plan, allowing the painting to evolve through instinct. The surface was deliberately varied, with areas of thickened medium creating relief that shifts with the light. When illuminated from the side, the work reveals a strong interplay of shadow and highlight, where texture becomes as active as colour.

ARTIST BIO

Felicity Barnett Hollingbery is an emerging artist based in Donvale, on the outer eastern edge of Melbourne. Working intuitively and with a strong sense of curiosity, she is at the beginning of her artistic journey, exploring a wide range of styles and techniques.

Her work is driven by a deep love of bright colour - bold, expressive palettes that capture energy, mood, and movement. Drawn particularly to abstract forms, Felicity enjoys the freedom abstraction offers: a space to experiment, respond, and discover without constraint. Each piece becomes a process of play and exploration, where colour leads and composition follows.

As a developing artist, she embraces experimentation as an essential part of her practice. Rather than adhering to a single style, she allows her work to evolve organically, reflecting both her surroundings, current interests and her ongoing creative growth.

Through her paintings, Felicity aims to evoke feeling and connection, inviting viewers to experience colour in a joyful, immediate, and personal way.
